Working with plastic I know that in many cases it is a greener choice of material than other available options. Many plastic materials such as PVC take less energy to produce and they can last much longer. This morning I found an interesting article in Plastics News which reiterated my frustration.
Media has conditioned consumers to believe that plastic is not green and this is a real shame. In the article there is a manufacturer of organic baby food who has to make a hard choice about using plastic packaging that is less expensive and has significant environmental advantanges. However it is seen as a negative by consumers forcing the firm to consider glass which is significantly more expensive, worse for the environment but perceived to be more green by consumers.
An excerpt from the article points out the following: "Competing baby food brands in glass jars use nine times as much fossil fuel to transport and take up to 14 times the amount of landfill space. By contrast, Plum's disposable pouch is eco-friendly, competitively priced and convenient to use. "
Plastic and plastic packaging has an important and green place in our culture and it is time that more people realize this.

Magna-Hinge Pouches Solve Inventory Management Problem

Magna-Hinge pouches are designed to securely mount on to wire baskets, racks, or closed handles for holding job tickets, tracking slips, assembly instructions, and various other messages for facility workers.

A recent success with a large aerospace company, reaffirms our believe that there is a big need for this product, but people who have the need do not know that this exists. Part of our
The pouches feature a clear window to display messages and a reinforced strap, with two encapsulated rare earth magnets that can wrap around wire baskets, racks, or closed handles and attach to each other. These heavy-duty pouches are made from 10-gauge flexible PVC. The design allows bar-coded messages in the pouches to be scanned with readers.
While we can manufacture any size, any strap-length, any color and add features required to meet very specific needs, we do stock a hand full of sizes which can be purchased at http://www.vinylenvelope.com/magnahinge-pouches-c-58.html.
Because the magnets are fully encapsulated, the pouches will not scratch painted metal or other sensitive surfaces. If you have a project, get in touch with us for samples, pricing, and quotations. http://www.rnrplastics.com/contactus.htm

What is Vinyl?
I was browsing www.vinyl.org the other day and I came across an overview of vinyl which you can read for yourself here.
Sometimes vinyl gets bad press, but I think we lose sight of how important vinyl is to our daily lives. It really is an amazing material that is economical to produce (it actually takes less energy and less oil to make PVC than other alternatives) so it is a cost leader. It has properties making it durable and flexible so it is long lasting. It is also highly recyclable.
Some of the concerns about vinyl are far outweighed by its benefits. This is why RNR Plastics uses it to fabricate durable flexible packaging and sign holders and we believe PVC will be around for a long time to come!
